America’s Cup sailor Luke Parkinson will spend the rest of the weekend watching the racing, rather than being in the thick of the action alongside team-mates Sam Newton and Ayden Menzies.

The tech2 SuperFoiler went turtle after crashing at nearly 60 kilometres an hour after a critical section of their boat snapped off.

A decision was made that a repair in the boat park was not possible, and the hull will transit from the launch pad to the factory in Nowra in an effort to repair the boat in time for the next regatta.

“Our team is devastated but we are doing everything we possibly can to be back at the next event,” said tech2’s skipper Luke Parkinson, "At the moment we are aiming for Thursday next week. It limits our sailing time but I am confident in our squad. We will be competitive in Geelong."

The Volvo Ocean Race winner was full of praise for his shore crew who tried to patch up the boat. Rather than leaving the regatta he wants to stay in Adelaide to spend time with fans and to keep a close eye on his rivals.

The racing continues with live-streaming kicking off on the weekend at www.superfoiler.com with Saturday’s stream running from 12.15pm-2.30pm ACDT and Sunday’s from 2pm-4pm ACDT.
